Halloween is a time when children and adults alike get to go all out, dress up and become someone else. Some even go all out and use gel makeup for Halloween special effects. You can create bruises, blood, stitches and much more when you use gel makeup for special effects.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Use gel makeup slightly warmed and melted at around 120 to 140 degrees. Wait a few seconds before applying it to the face.

  2. Step 2

Dab the melted makeup onto your skin a little bit at a time. When you use gel makeup, blend it in well before applying more.

  3. Step 3

Work quickly when you use this makeup. It will begin to set in a short amount of time as it cools to room temperature and can drag on the skin when you apply it in this state.

  4. Step 4

Continue heating the makeup to melt it and continue applying it, building up the color to get a smoother look. Keep blending and working the color until the appearance looks distressed enough for your costume.

  5. Step 5

Keep brushing and blending the gel makeup in with a makeup brush. The brush will blend the color flat into the skin to give a smooth effect.

Tips & Warnings
  • Try using cotton swabs to apply and blend the makeup. Gel makeup can be difficult to remove from your brushes, and cotton swabs work just as quickly and well as brushes–and they are disposable.
  • Practice applying your makeup before Halloween to make sure you can get the look you want.
