Left-handed golfers need to re-think the rules of posture and swing. Traditional golfing instructions are geared towards right-handed players. The right-hand bias of most golf instruction requires left-handers to develop a mirror image of the right-handed instructions. In golf, mastery of the wood clubs is essential to give a left-handed player a competitive edge out on the links.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Start by taking out the fairway wood and stand with the ball directly in the middle of the stance. Left-handed golfers need to grip the club with their right hand first. The left hand is wrapped comfortably around the right hand with the thumb nestled in the palm of the right hand.

  2. Step 2

Take a small step forward with the left foot and keep the right foot pointed a little off center. This step should be slightly larger than when using a driver.

  3. Step 3

Take a step back with the left foot to place the ball just on the inside of the front heal and shift the right foot closer to the left. Adopting a stance like this allows the golfer to sweep up with the fairway wood and send the ball high into the air in a nice soaring arc.

  4. Step 4

Concentrate on staying down and sweeping the golf ball up into the air to improve the shots taken with fairway woods. Left-handed golfers need to pay special attention to the placement of the feet and the rotation of the hips.
