Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Step1
Start the sequence of equipment hookups with the microphone. The microphone is the primary audio input device. A good quality microphone should be one of the most researched pieces of equipment.
Step2
Connect the microphone to the preamp. The preamp is the first piece of recording equipment to receive the audio signal. The preamp handles all signal information before it reaches the control interface.
Step3
Go next to the control interface. The control interface is the main juncture for the capture of audio. The interface is the nerve center of any home recording studio.
Step4
Make the final connection to the mixer if required. A mixer is not always necessary as many of its functions can be handled by the control interface.
Step5
Mark both ends of the microphone cable if connecting multiple microphones. Many audio technicians use a bit of masking tape and permanent marker to number the microphones. Numbering the microphones saves a lot of guesswork when it comes time to mix recordings from several singers and instruments.
