Fly fishing is an ancient angling method, once used primarily to catch trout and salmon. Now, anglers use fly fishing to catch bass, pike, carp and panfish. Some try to catch as many different species as possible. Follow these steps to find fly fishing stuff.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Find fly fishing stuff at local fishing retailers and online. There are dozens of websites that offer a plethora of fly fishing equipment.

  2. Step 2

Get a fly rod, reel and line combo if you're just getting started in fly fishing. Most stores that sell fly fishing equipment sell this combo kit. It'll run you between $60 and $120.

  3. Step 3

Buy flies. They're another bare essential that you must have. 10 to 12 flies should cost you less than $20. Ask other fly fishermen what type of flies are working on local waterways.

  4. Step 4

Know there are several types of flies. Streamers are long and skinny. They sink and resemble bait fish. Dry flies float, wet flies sink and poppers are floating flies made out of cork.

  5. Step 5

Purchase a few tools for fly tying. You'll need a vice, to hold the hook while you tie. It can set you back up to $300 or more. A bobbin holds the thread spool and fly tying scissors with a very fine tip.

  6. Step 6

Check out the Orvis website online for everything a fly fisherman dreams of having. You'll definitely need a fly fishing vest, hat, creel and waders to go fly fishing. Make it a point to browse through Cabela's and Bass Pro Shop whenever you're near one of these huge stores--they have whole sections of fly fishing stuff.
