Ask at a local school. Often athletic instructors have up-to-date information on the latest news on various sports. Schools also send home information and registration sheets before the season opens.

Approach league members for registration sign-up dates. You may have to join a mass registration if the sport is popular in your area or you may be able to sign up on an ongoing basis.

Check the rules and regulations before you sign up. There may be different leagues for different age groups and different leagues for men and women.

Purchase the correct equipment including a glove and a bat. Check the regulations for equipment requirements.

Practice your throwing, catching, hitting and fielding so that if you need to try out for a team you will be well prepared.

Join a softball camp and get lots of practice at your favorite game. You will be with coaches and other players where you can learn all about the various teams and leagues.
