Do you have an administrative professional that works with you? Did you know that Administrative Professionals week is celebrated the last full week of April (for 2008 this is April 20-26)? Learn how to recognize and celebrate your admin and show him/her the appreciation that they deserve!

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • A desire to appreciate your "right" hand person.
  • An administrative professional you would like to recognize (whether they work directly or indirectly) with you.
  1. Step 1
    Mark the Date
    Mark the Date

Mark the date of Administrative Professionals Week on your calendar (if your admin hasn't already done it for you). Believe me, they have it on theirs! Administrative Professionals Week is celebrated annually on the last full week of April. It is to recognize administrative professionals whether they work directly or indirectly with you or your team. Although it spans an entire week, Administrative Professionals DAY is actually celebrated annually on the Wednesday of Administrative Professionals Week.

  2. Step 2
    Think Ahead
    Think Ahead

THINK AHEAD! If you are going to be out of the office during Admin. Week, celebrate with your admin before departing! Your admin will recognize that it was important to you to celebrate with them and it will make a lasting impression on them. Although most admins and their superiors may seem to know each other well, sometimes it spans no further than "the office". So, if you are stuck for an idea of a gift or a way to recognize them, listen CLOSELY and they may tell you things that can assist you with making a decision.

  3. Step 3
    Tips for Gifts
    Tips for Gifts

It is nice, but NOT customary to give a gift every day of the week. However, if you have an administrative professional that assists more than one individual or team, think about splitting up the days between various supervisors or team members so that everyone has an opportunity to thank the admin either personally or team-wide. Remember, there are many ways to say, "I appreciate you" other than "let's do lunch"!

  4. Step 4
    Get Creative
    Get Creative

BE CREATIVE! With all that your administrative professional does for you and the team, get creative with ideas on how to recognize them! Instead of flowers, candy or gift cards, try thinking outside of the box! How about an engraved plaque expressing your appreciation? Or, have the entire team organize a surprise potluck in the admin's honor? Many places offer unique gift baskets and even personalized bottles of wine or champagne (*DISCLAIMER: Please make sure professional is of age and enjoys alcoholic beverages). Finally, you could even sit down one-on-one with your admin and tell them exactly how much you appreciate all that they do.

  5. Step 5
    Say Thanks
    Say Thanks

Finally, just make sure that you tell the administrative person in YOUR life how much your appreciate them! It will mean a world of difference in their day and it will make you both stronger as a team!

Tips & Warnings
  • WARNING: Your administrative professional may smile more and enjoy working for you even more than before!
  • Or, the opposite may occur if you choose not to say thank you during this special week.
