Step 1
Consider moving closer to your place of work. Less distance results in less commute time, less time spent in traffic means more time for your family.
-
Step 2
Change jobs. Ask for a transfer with your present job to a location closer to your home. Check job openings in your fields from employers who have locations in or near your neighborhood.
-
Step 3
Ask your current employer if it is possible to change your shift. The worst commute times are 6 to 7 a.m. when most factory workers are traveling to work and 8 to 9 a.m. when office workers are commuting. See if you can arrange to start working at a less congested hour to reduce your commute time.
-
Step 4
Join a carpool. Although you will still have the same amount of distance to travel, you will reduce commute time because you can use the HOV (high occupancy vehicle) lanes on the freeways.
-
Step 5
Find out if you can do your job from home. Working out of a home office eliminates commute time. Not only will you never face a traffic jam again, you will save money on wardrobe, lunch and daycare expenses.
