Whiteboards benefit students, professionals and families. Large whiteboards from office supply stores are expensive and sometimes too large for the space available. With clear duct tape and paper, you can make a custom whiteboard for school projects and family memos.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Whiteboard surface
  • Paper
  • Clear duct tape
  • Scissors
  • Tape, tacks or magnets
  • Permanent markers, stickers or paint

Step1
Determine how large you need the whiteboard. You can make individual whiteboards for kids by using CD cases, small pieces of cardboard or cut up cereal boxes. Poster paper or large pieces of cardboard are good for making larger whiteboards.
Step2
Choose paper for the whiteboard surface. You can use any color paper, but white paper is the best because you can use any color marker on the whiteboard. However, kids like customizing their whiteboard with colored paper, and older students might want a colored whiteboard for their locker.
Step3
Attach the paper to the whiteboard surface using clear duct tape. Make sure the tape goes all the way around, and smooth out any bubbles or wrinkles.
Step4
Cut the whiteboard into any design you like, after you apply the duct tape.
Step5
Attach larger whiteboards to the wall using tape or tacks. Glue magnet strips on the backs of smaller whiteboards made from CD cases, cereal boxes or small pieces of cardboard, and stick them on the fridge.
Step6
Decorate the whiteboard using permanent markers, stickers, craft items or paint. Students can put their names on them, and teens can decorate them with pictures from magazines.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can use just one piece of paper and duct tape, but applying the paper to a hard surface helps the board last longer and makes it easier to use during car trips or while sitting on the couch.
  • Don't cut your whiteboard into a custom shape until after you put on the duct tape. If you try cutting before you apply the tape, your board will be much harder to tape.
