Instructions

    • 1

Buy large magnetic choker and necklace clasps. Also purchase choker accessories such as beads, charms or stone and safety pin pendants. Make your own safety pin pendants or accessories by threading small "seed" beads onto safety pins.

    • 2

Choose your colored pantyhose or stocking. Cut the foot off of one leg above the ankle, and cut the same leg off from the rest of the pantyhose at the thigh. If using a stocking, simply cut off the thigh portion. Use the remaining middle section of the leg to create your necklace.

    • 3

Wrap the middle portion around your throat and roughly measure the desired length. Add 1/3 inch to the length, and cut the remainder away. The additional centimeter is used to connect your clasps.

    • 4

Fold pantyhose material to your desired choker width and thickness.

    • 5

Twist one end of your material and tie it off with a rubber band leaving 1/6 inch of material on the end. Sprinkle a few drops of glue onto the end material and twist the material between your thumb and first finger until the end is straight and hardened. Don't worry if the tip is too hard; the glue is water soluble.

    • 6

Affix the end to half of your magnetic necklace clasp. Hold the material to you neck once more, and gauge whether the additional length added to the necklace by the clasp requires the removal or cutting away of material. If not, repeat Step 5 on the other end and affix the other half of your magnetic necklace clasp.

    • 7

Add accessories, or leave the material unadorned.

Tips & Warnings

  • Another way to make a one-of-a kind choker is to cut sections of the finished choker in the same way that you cut paper when making a snowflake. Flatten the folded material, cut one side only and then unfold to reveal large cut out sections which can be adorned with accessories or ripped to create a ragged Gothic style choker.

  • Never tie off a pantyhose choker necklace around your throat with a knot or use a pantyhose thigh top as a choker by stretching it over your head. Although pantyhose are stretchy, prone to tearing and eventually weaken with wearing, the nylon and spandex actually become stronger at first when rolled or condensed to make a choker. During a potential allergic reaction in which the throat swells or a fall in which someone accidentally tries to grab you and inadvertently grabs the choker, it may be impossible to remove the choker or the choker may accidentally cause strangulation, asphyxiation and death.
