How to Make a Mannequin Out of a Pillow

Having a mannequin can be so helpful when you're trying to alter clothing to fit you or when your trying to make garments from patterns. Sometimes, it's just not possible to hold a seam behind your back and look at yourself in the mirror. Dress forms are also rather expensive. Save yourself some mone, and save your arms, by making a mannequin out of a pillow.

Things You'll Need

• Pillow
• Safety pins
• Pole (broom stick or something similar)
• Pillow case
• Measuring tape

Instructions

1. Measure your waist, chest and hips with a measuring tape and record all the measurements on a piece on paper when you make a mannequin out of a pillow.

2. Choose a pillow you're like to use for the mannequin. Mark where your waist, chest and hips fall on the pillow. You will have to gather some of the extra fabric with safety pins.

3. Re-measure the altered pillow to make sure that the pillow you're making into a mannequin matches your measurements. If not, readjust, using the safety pins. Having an accurately sized mannequin is essential if you hope to find this mannequin useful.

4. Fasten the adjusted pillow to a pole without affecting the measurements, and slip the pillowcase over the pillow and the pole so that it forms the neck of your pillow mannequin neck.

5. Use your pillow mannequin for your sewing projects. Because your pillow mannequin has your measurements, you can use it when you're trying to fit a dress to yourself. Making a mannequin of your pillow can be an inexpensive way to create a dress form that any seamstress or tailor would appreciate.
