How to Make a Clay Chubby Owl
Clay figures are a fun and creative craft for people of all ages. To make a cute, chubby owl is a simple process of putting together a series of clay shapes. The end result looks like a small cartoon owl. The entire construction of the owl should take less than half an hour.

1
Choose a clay type. The clay used can be of a non-drying type for those who want to reuse the clay later. Or, it can be made of a craft clay for baking for those who want the owl to be permanent.

2
Take a piece of clay and roll it into a ball. The bottom of the ball is then flattened to allow it to stay in one spot. This clay ball makes up the largest part of the owl, so its size should take that into account. Make the ball a little over half the height that you want the owl to be.

3
Make another ball that is about the same size as the last ball. Then, divide that ball into four smaller balls. Two of the balls should be about half the size of the other two balls. Place the larger balls directly on top of the first ball. These balls should be next to each other and will represent the eyes. The smaller set should be pressed into the front of the other two balls. Those will be the pupils.

4
Shape a piece of clay into a small beak and press it into the largest ball. It should be placed between the eyes, in a slightly lower position.
-
5
Create two wings and place on each side of the abdomen. The wings should start near the top of the abdomen and reach at least to the bottom. Making them longer and allowing them to curve to the side along the bottom surface gives the owl a cute effect.

6
Bake your owl according to the directions on the clay package if using permanent craft clay. When cooled, you can use acrylic paints to make your owl come to life. If using reusable clay, put your owl somewhere you can look at it for awhile, then mash the clay back into a ball and return it to the container to be used again.
