How to Make a Horse Fall Over

In an emergency, an experienced rider can make a horse fall to prevent a even worse accident. The fall can be dangerous to the horse and to the rider, making it important to try every other option first before trying to make the horse fall. When it is essential to cause a horse to fall, you need to know the proper steps to do it safely and effectively.

Instructions

    • 1

Let go of the right rein. Keep hold of the left one and transfer it to the right hand. That hand should stay on the right of the horse's neck. This will make the rein lie over the neck.

    • 2

Take your feet out of the stirrups. It will be important to maneuver your leg away from the side of the horse after you have made him fall. Get ready to pull your right leg up quickly.

    • 3

Use your right hand to tug on the rein. You must pull hard enough so that the horse's head will be forced to turn.

    • 4

Keep your left leg at the left side of the horse. The horse will pull up his right shoulder. As the rein is pulled, shift all of your weight quickly to the horse's right side. You must continue to hang on with your left leg, however, or you can be seriously injured.

    • 5

Raise up your right leg as the horse falls. As he falls, move away from the left to stay away from the legs. A horse will try to get back up by kicking. If you are in the way of the legs, you can be kicked and sustain injuries. Once the horse has fallen and you have gotten away safely, call the veterinarian to check out the horse and make certain he has not been injured.

Teaching a horse to fall is not something the "average hacker" should be trying to do. This 'trick' could cause severe injury to both horse and rider if not death. There really is no real reason to train a horse to "fall". Can the author please give me an instance where a horse "falling" is going to make a situation better?
