A temporary Mohican hairstyle, also known as a "faux-hawk," can be achieved without the drastic measure of shaving your hair on the sides. This style was made popular by David Beckham and has been seen on young men from Jack Osbourne to Ryan Seacrest.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Tail comb
  • Pomade
  1. Step 1

Get the right haircut to shape into this style. It needs to be shorter on the sides and longer on top, which is a very common cut for men. The length can vary, from just 1 1/2 inches on top to 6 inches.

  2. Step 2

Keep hair clean between stylings with a good refining shampoo that removes product residue. Condition hair with a lightweight conditioner to keep hair healthy and shiny.

  3. Step 3

Choose the right pomade to use. Get lightweight pomade, which is enough for short hair and can be used with all lengths for other styles. Buy heavyweight pomade for longer hair.

  4. Step 4

Dry hair completely with a towel and then air dry.

  5. Step 5

Rub a quarter-sized amount of pomade between your palms to loosen it up. Rub the pomade throughout your hair evenly on top and back of the hair.

  6. Step 6

Separate the hair on top and back from the sides with a comb tail. Smooth the sides backward with excess pomade. If your hair is long, then push the excess hair downward in back.

  7. Step 7

Add another quarter-size amount of pomade to your hand and use it to push hair in the back and top together. Once it is standing, then use your fingers to separate out spikes if desired.
