1. Clip coupons and sale flyers. Wal-Mart price matches all local competitors, so ad prices for any of your local stores can be considered ads for Wal-Mart. Consolidate your shopping and get all the good deals in one store. This tip is especially helpful for food shopping in a supercenter where you can get all of the weekly produce sales in one location.
2. Consider purchasing the Wal-Mart brand product. Wal-Mart's Sam's Choice and Equate brands are priced significantly lower than the brand-name competitors and are typically of comparable quality. Examine the ingredients and cost and decide if the Wal-Mart generic brand is right for your family.
3. Keep an eye on rollbacks. Wal-Mart often cuts its own low prices through a policy called rollbacks. They are clearly marked, and usually located in the aisle on a display. If you are not in immediate need of an item, you can watch it for a few weeks to see if the price will be rolled back. You can typically save 10% or more with price rollbacks.
4. Take advantage of generic prescriptions at Wal-Mart. The discount chain is now offering many generic prescription drugs for a low cost, and this practice now accounts for almost 40% of Wal-Mart's total pharmacy sales. This discount is especially helpful for families with no prescription drug coverage or no health insurance plan.
5. Shop clearance. Wal-Mart often offers great items at clearance prices, especially at the end of a season and after holidays. Shop ahead for next year and save a bundle. Wal-Mart no longer has a clearance section for all items, so you have to search each section for the deals.
