How to Keep Quiet in Class

If you're always missing questions on tests because you didn't hear them properly or receive detention slips because your talking disrupts other students, discover ways to keep quiet in class. You'll learn more and also impress your teacher with your attentiveness and maturity.

Instructions

    • 1

Concentrate on the lesson your teacher is giving. If you feel the urge to talk, come up with questions about the lecture or something pertinent to add to the class discussion. Raise your hand and wait until your teacher calls on you rather than blurting out what you want to say.

    • 2

Read along in the book and try to absorb as much information as you can for the upcoming test. If you keep your mind from wandering, you won't be able to come up with other things to talk about.

    • 3

Allow yourself to daydream a little if you typically talk in class because you're bored. Ask your teacher for additional worksheets or an extra credit project to work on to keep busy once you've finished your other work.

    • 4

Write yourself a note instead of talking. You'll keep quiet, but you'll also have a reminder of what you want to tell your friends at lunch.

    • 5

Tell friends (quickly) that you'll talk to them after class if they attempt to engage you in conversation. Let them know that you're trying to turn over a new leaf.

    • 6

Reward yourself for being quiet and attentive in class. If you go several days without talking out of turn or if your teacher compliments the improvement in your behavior, treat yourself to ice cream, a new compact disc or a DVD.
