Poor scalp health usually results in dandruff, and it can cause hair thinning and loss. Research indicates a possible link between an overabundance of a natural fungus on your scalp and dandruff. There are several methods for correcting the problem and treating the symptoms.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • White beets
  • 1 tsp. lime juice

Step1
Avoid both under-washing and over-washing your hair, and using too many styling products. Your scalp naturally produces oils, and over-washing causes your hair to over-produce these oils. Most days, your hair only needs rinsing with clean water. Use a natural shampoo only when your hair and scalp are both dirty.
Step2
Boil both the roots and tops of beets in water. Massage the water into your scalp every night with your fingertips. White beets are better than red for this because the red can dye your scalp and hair pink.
Step3
Add 1 tsp. of lime juice to your last rinse when washing your hair. This removes any sticky residue and helps prevent damage. It also leaves your hair shiny.

Tips & Warnings

  • These are individual options and you shouldn't do them all at the same time.
  • If you're used to washing your hair everyday, you may need to wear a bandanna or hat until your scalp adjusts to the new washing schedule. Your scalp will over-produce oil for the first week or so before it adjusts to only producing the oil it needs to be healthy.
  • If you have longer hair and get something in it, wash just the hair and not your roots or scalp.
