  1. Step 1

Discuss the idea with your parents. They may be upset that you want to go to public school but explain to them the reasons you wish to attend public high school, mention the activities you can participate in that will look good on your college transcripts.

  2. Step 2

Visit the high school you will be attending, you want to make sure you feel comfortable with it before you enroll. Talk with the principal about what kind of extra-curricular activities they offer and if possible meet with your teachers before you start school.

  3. Step 3

Talk with the kids in your neighborhood that go to the high school you are going to attend. If you get to know some of your fellow classmates you won't be so nervous on your first day of school.

  4. Step 4

Buy a new school wardrobe so you feel confident when you start school. Sometimes when you do home school you don't keep up with the latest fashion trends, buy things you see other high school students wearing so you feel like you fit in with your peers.

Work to catch up if you are behind in any subject. Sometimes when you go from home school to high school you will notice gaps in your education in some subjects and you may be ahead of your peers in other areas.

  6. Step 6

Relax and realize that even though it may be tough at first you will fit in just fine at your new high school. Everybody is nervous on their first day at a new school.
