1
Contact the camping area where you will camp and ask if they have a suggested packing list for their area. Often these lists reflect the type of weather expected and are good to consult for clothing choices that you should pack.
-
2
Consider the type of sleeping arrangements you have. Tent campers need to bring not only their tent, but also sleeping bags, pillows and air mattresses or bedrolls. Don't forget the air pump and a repair kit. Cabin campers may have all bedding included in the cabin while people who use motor homes need to make sure it's stocked with bedding.

Look at the surrounding areas to see how close a town is and if it has any restaurants, as this helps with planning meals and snacks for the trip. Maybe splurge one night and run into town to do a little sightseeing and try a new restaurant. It's also helpful to know the closest store in the event that you forget to pack something on your camping list.

4
Check if the campsite allows open fires. Due to the high wildfire danger, many campsites restrict open fires to certain areas or prohibit them entirely. This may require an altering of the campfire treats.
-
5
Ask if showers and electricity are available. Three days without a shower can be rough, but many campsites have group showers that include electrical outlets. Packing things for a shower helps to make camping a little more bearable for some.

6
Make sure the list includes all of the little things that make camping more comfortable. A lantern is perfect regardless of what kind of shelter you're in, and the same goes for a deck of cards, a camera and binoculars. The list from the camping site likely includes ideas about different activities to do around the campsite like fishing so that type of equipment is on their list as well.

Tips & Warnings
Include a whistle and first aid kit for safety even if the camping list doesn't include it.
Tell at least one person where you plan to camp, when you plan to leave and your return date, and bring a cell phone and charger. Although there may not be service, if you have to hike to get help, it's best to take a phone and continue to check for service.
