How to Disable Onboard Integrated Video on a Computer

When you install a new video card on a computer, you should disable the onboard integrated video. Disabling the onboard integrated video on the computer helps the accelerator detect the computer's bios. Some onboard integrated video cards such as AGP, PCI and PCI-E cause conflict with the accelerator's ability to find and detect the motherboard's bios.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

1. Find out what kind of integrated video is in the computer. If you have the manual that came with the computer look under Video Components or PNB. Look on the manufacturer's website if do you not have the manual.
2. Click on the "My Computer" icon or right-click on "My Computer" in the Start menu. Choose "Manage" from the list.
3. Highlight "Display Adapters" or click on the "+" symbol beside Display Adapters. Right-click on "Onboard Graphics." Pick "Disable" from the options.
4. Click "Apply." A window appears and asks you to reboot. Do not reboot or restart. Instead, insert the CD or floppy that came with the video card before you shut down. Once the disk is inserted, shut down the computer and allow it to completely reboot.
5. Unplug the computer's monitor and the power cord to the computer. Even with the computer off, some people have been shocked while working on a computer.
6. Install the new video card. Once installed, plug the monitor and power cord back in.
7. Start the computer. The system will detect the new card and install it for you.
