Things You'll Need:
- Unsweetened cocoa powder
- All-purpose flour, sifted
- Salt
- Baking soda
- White sugar
- Brown sugar, packed
- Vegetable shortening
- Eggs
- Pure vanilla extract
- Miniature marshmallows

Step 1
Put the miniature marshmallows in the freezer to harden for at least 2 hours.

Sift the flour, cocoa, baking soda and salt together in a large mixing bowl.

Cream the vegetable shortening together with the white sugar and brown sugar in a separate bowl, and then beat in the eggs and vanilla. Mix the ingredients thoroughly, and stir in the flour mixture, continuing to mix until the batter is smooth and creamy.

Chill the mixture in the refrigerator until the dough is firm.

Shape a piece of dough about the size of a large marble around each marshmallow, making sure the marshmallow is completely covered.

Roll each chocolate marshmallow puff in a small bowl of sugar. Put the marshmallow puffs on a greased baking sheet, and bake them in a pre-heated 400 degree F oven, for 5 to 7 minutes, or until the puffs crack.

Cool the chocolate marshmallow puffs on a metal rack for about 2 minutes, then remove them from the cookie sheet.
