Very few store-bought cookies have stood the test of time. One that has remained popular is the Oreo. People may argue as to the best way to eat the Oreo cookie--whether to dunk it in milk or twist it open to lick the creamy center--but one way you completely transform the confection is to make a chocolate-covered Oreo cookie cake. The finished cake resembles a giant Oreo cookie.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 1 (18.25 oz.) package devil's food chocolate cake mix
  • 4 (1 oz.) squares semi-sweet baking chocolate
  • 1/4 cup butter, chopped
  • 1 (8 oz.) package cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 2 cups thawed Cool Whip
  • 12 Oreo sandwich cookies, coarsely crushed
  • 2 large mixing bowls
  • Spoon
  • 2 (9-inch) round baking pans
  • Small microwavable bowl
  • Electric mixer
  • Knife
  1. Step 1

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Mix together ingredients needed for devil's food chocolate cake mix in mixing bowl.

  2. Step 2

Bake cake mix in two 9-inch cake pans as directed on the package. Remove from the oven once cooked, and cool in pans for five minutes. Remove cake from pans, and ensure the layers cool completely.

  3. Step 3

Place chocolate and butter into small microwavable bowl. Microwave on high for two minutes, or until the butter has melted. Stir mixture until chocolate has melted. Cool for 5 minutes.

  4. Step 4

Beat together cream cheese and sugar in large mixing bowl. Use an electric mixer set at medium speed. Add the Cool Whip and Oreo cookie crumbs, and mix gently.

  5. Step 5

Set one of the cake layers on the cake plate with the top-side down. Spread the cream cheese mixture over the top of the layer. Place second cake layer on top of the cream cheese, top-side up.

  6. Step 6

Spoon glaze over the top of the cake. Let the cake stand while the glaze sets. Store chocolate cake in the refrigerator until serving.

Tips & Warnings
  • Check the cake box for the ingredients that you need to make the cake. Those ingredients aren't included above, since it depends on what brand you purchase.
  • If chocolate glaze becomes too thick, place in the microwave on high for 20 to 30 seconds.
