Step 1
Turn a sheet of paper horizontally, or into a landscape.
-
Step 2
Draw a square on the right side of the paper. It doesn't matter how big or exactly where, but it should be closer to the edge than the middle. Start with the top then draw the right side of the square, the bottom and the left side, finishing at the upper left hand corner of the square. Don't lift the pencil after you draw the square.
-
Step 3
Use your left hand to bring the left edge of the paper over, almost as if it were folded, but don't crease it down. Instead bring the edge over so it touches the pencil, leaving the paper bowed on the left side.
-
Step 4
Continue the pencil line from the corner of the first square up onto the backside of the paper that you bent. It doesn't matter what you draw on the backside, just keep the pencil touching the paper the entire time.
-
Step 5
Slide the folded edge of the paper over slowly, keeping the pencil lightly touching the paper. To prove the point that the paper is moving, not the pencil, allow the pencil to drag along the paper, creating a mark as the paper moves. There should now be a gap between the edge of the paper and the first square.
-
Step 6
Move the pencil back onto the right side of the paper and unfold the paper until it's laying flat again. Remember not to lift the pencil.
-
Step 7
Sketch the second unconnected square and collect on the bet. This trick is possible with any unconnected shape, not just squares. Tell the person they can even pick the shape you draw for a truly impressive trick.
