How to Fly a Hydra Jet in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas

There are many vehicles in "Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas," but the best may be the Hydra. The Hydra flies like a helicopter or a plane, and has enough speed to get you anywhere on the map quickly. You'll find it equipped with some powerful rockets.

Instructions

    • 1

Acquire a Hydra. Complete the mission "Vertical Bird" to get one, or you can take a model from the "Military Service" street race mission at the Las Venturas airport after you have unlocked the street racing mission.

    • 2

Enter the Hydra the same way you enter a car. On the Playstation 2, use the triangle button to enter the jet; on the Xbox version, use the "Y" button. On the PC, press "Enter" to get into the jet.

    • 3

Take off. The Hydra begins in hover mode so it controls like a helicopter. Hold the accelerator button to get the Hydra to lift off the runway. Raise the landing gear by pressing the right analog stick button. You can hover with the same controls as a helicopter.

    • 4

Switch to jet mode by pressing up on the right analog stick. This will allow you to control the Hydra like a plane. Control your pitch and roll with the left analog stick and your rudder with the right analog stick. Orient yourself with the controls if you haven't flown a plane in the game before.

    • 5

Sit back and enjoy the ride. Hydras are equipped with heat seeking rockets. Use the target button to lock on to something, and then press the attack button to fire your rocket. Try out some tricks like flips and barrel rolls with the Hydra.

    • 6

Land. This works the same as a helicopter. Return to hover mode by pressing down on the right analog stick. Slow down, extend your landing gear and gently lower your Hydra until it is resting on the tarmac, or wherever you decide to land.

Tips & Warnings

  • Be careful flying over military areas in the game, as you may get shot down by surface-to-air missiles or get into a dogfight with fighter jets.
