How to Recycle Organic Waste
The most common types of organic waste are agricultural, food and animal matter. You can recycle domestic organic waste by making a compost pile in your backyard. Organic waste recycling recreates the way nature breaks down organic materials. If you live in a cold area, keep your compost in the sun. If you live in a warm or dry area, keep it in the shade.

1
Choose a place to keep your compost pile or bin. Put your compost pile over grass or soil instead of concrete.
-
2
Place your organic waste in the compost bin. You may want to research what kinds of waste is acceptable for household composting.
-
-
3
Maintain a balance by weight of 25 parts carbon-rich to 1 part nitrogen-rich materials in your compost pile. An improper balance will cause the pile to decompose slowly or produce odors.
-
4
Turn or mix the pile or contents of the bin every 3 or 4 weeks. This will speed up the decomposition process and allow the compost to decompose evenly.
-
5
Keep your compost moist. If it begins to dry out, add wet materials or water.
-
6
Use your compost to fertilize your plants or as a soil conditioner. Compost is ready to be used when it appears dark brown and feels loose.
