When your bath towels get holes in them or start unraveling around the edges, it's time to do something with them. Recycle your old towels and make them into washcloths for your kids. You'll reduce waste and save money.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Scissors
  • Sewing machine or surger
  • Thread
  1. Step 1

Cut the old, worn towels into washcloth-sized squares. Try 6 by 6 inch squares to begin with. Make them larger or smaller, depending on your preference. Round the corners to give them a "washcloth" look. If you have strong sewing skills, cut them into interesting shapes that your kids may enjoy. Simple squares are much easier to hem than more complex shapes.

  2. Step 2

Use a sewing machine and hem around the edges of the new washcloth. Try a close zigzag stitch. Work your way around the entire edge of the washcloth. If you have access to a surger, surge the edges instead of hemming them.

  3. Step 3

Give your recycled washcloths character. Get your kids in on the action and make it a family project. Add an appliqué or tie dye the washcloths into different colors.
