Things You'll Need:
- Scissors
- Sewing machine or surger
- Thread
-
Step 1
Cut the old, worn towels into washcloth-sized squares. Try 6 by 6 inch squares to begin with. Make them larger or smaller, depending on your preference. Round the corners to give them a "washcloth" look. If you have strong sewing skills, cut them into interesting shapes that your kids may enjoy. Simple squares are much easier to hem than more complex shapes.
-
Step 2
Use a sewing machine and hem around the edges of the new washcloth. Try a close zigzag stitch. Work your way around the entire edge of the washcloth. If you have access to a surger, surge the edges instead of hemming them.
-
Step 3
Give your recycled washcloths character. Get your kids in on the action and make it a family project. Add an appliqué or tie dye the washcloths into different colors.
