Dance music can be greatly enhanced by adding lyrics to the melody. The lyrics that are written should blend into the song without taking away from the beat that inspires dancing. Writing lyrics can take time, but the result is a much improved song.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Listen to the music several times to get a feel for the overall tone of the song. The lyrics you write must match this tone. Dance lyrics are generally peppy and upbeat, but if your song isn't, that should be reflected in the lyrics.

  2. Step 2

Write lyrics that won't overwhelm the music. The lyrics of dance music are generally simple so that it's easy to sing them while dancing. The lyrics should not be too complicated and should have plenty of repeating refrains.

  3. Step 3

Create lyrics that will appeal to the song's audience. You likely know the people who will be hearing the song. Think about what they typically want in a dance song.

  4. Step 4

Pay attention to the spaces in the song where there are no lyrics. Dance music usually has a few rest spots so that dancers can rest for a few moments. This makes it possible to dance through the rest of the song. You can leave those rest spots blank to give the song variety or you can write lyrics during them so that the dancers can sing while pausing.

  5. Step 5

Make the specific words match the beats they fall on. Staccato moments can take longer words while single beat times need shorter words.
