How to Be Courteous
Civility is, according to some, a dying virtue in a world in which people shout at each other while making their points among the talking heads of television. Bombast and invective have become common communication tools. But you can eliminate some of the daily courseness by acting courteously at all times.

1
Say thank you when someone has done something thoughtful for you. It's a matter of common courtesy to acknowledge and thank generosity and thoughtfulness. When you receive a gift, send a written thank you note instead of an email or text message.
-
2
Practice saying "Please" whenever you ask for something. You're more likely to get what you ask for if you start your requests with the word "please."
-
-
3
Refrain from interrupting anyone. Show the same courtesy to others that you expect by waiting until the speaker has finished talking. Whenyou interrupt a person in midsentence, you imply that what you have to say is more important than what he saying.
-
4
Smile when you deal with anyone. A smile is a great way to communicate your respect and appreciation for another and to show them that you value them.
-
5
Apologize when you hurt someone with words or actions. Not only will your apology help to mend a relationship, but you will also be taking responsibility for your action and showing courtesy to the other person.
