If you are one of those people who love to celebrate but loath surprise parties, you can find a way to get out of the party. You'll need a sense of humor and be willing to tell the occasional white lie.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging

Step1
Explain that you have a slight anxiety disorder. If you tell those planning the surprise party that you suffer from low-grade anxiety problems, they will understand that it might be difficult for you to enjoy yourself at the party.
Step2
Tell the party planners that you have a previous engagement that cannot be broken. If you explain that you have a work-related function to attend that came up at the last moment, they can't object.
Step3
Send out an e-mail to everyone involved and explain profound shyness keeps you from participating in a surprise party. They should understand.
Step4
Invite individuals who were going to attend your surprise party for lunch at a later time. Explain that you prefer one-to-one interactions.
Step5
Tell everyone you are on a major diet and you simply must lose the weight, so a surprise party would be detrimental to your health. This will be a humorous and graceful way for you to reject the surprise party.
