Learning to play the piano is as easy as A, B, C. In less than an hour, you can learn the basic hand positions and keys, and you should be able to pick out a chord. You might not be ready for Beethoven just yet, but you will be able to make some joyful noise.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Find Middle C and place both thumbs on this key. Middle C is the central key on the keyboard and is usually located directly beneath the name stamp of the piano.

  2. Step 2

Place each additional finger on the white keys that follow without skipping any white keys. Ignore the black piano keys.

  3. Step 3

Pretend that you're holding a golf ball in each palm while keeping your fingers on the keys. Your hands are up and arched and only your fingertips are touching the piano. Sit up straight with your feet flat on the floor.

  4. Step 4

Play each key resting under a finger, beginning with your left pinkie and moving to the right until you reach your right pinkie. You've just played the notes F, G, A, B, Middle C, D, E, F and G.

  5. Step 5

Press down your left pinkie and your right thumb simultaneously and then release them. Press down your left ring finger and your right pointer finger and release. Continue until you reach your left thumb and your right pinkie.

  6. Step 6

Use both pinkies, both middle fingers and either thumb to press down the corresponding keys. You've just played a chord.
