How to Hook up an iPod in a Prius

The Toyota Prius's great gas mileage, distinctive style and smooth ride are just a few of the features that make this hybrid hatchback distinctive. One of its little known accessories is the auxiliary audio input jack hidden in the center console. Although there are other means available, using this jack is the cheapest and easiest way to hook your iPod up to your Prius.

Instructions

    • 1

Visit an electronics store and buy audio connector cables with 1/8 inch stereo plugs on each end.

    • 2

Hop in your Prius and open up the center console. Rummage through your stuff and look for the auxiliary audio input jack at the bottom of the box. It's covered by a small rubber cap.

    • 3

Connect one end of the stereo cable to your iPod and the other end to the auxiliary input jack.

    • 4

Turn the Prius on and switch its main display to the Audio screen. Then, select the "AUX" audio input option.

    • 5

Power the iPod on and select the song you want to play. Once it begins playing, use both the iPod's click wheel and the Prius's volume controls to find the volume level that's just right.

    • 6

Close the center console on the cable and set the iPod on top of it. The iPod should stay put, especially if your Prius has a leather interior.
