Learning the rugby set kick will help you to score during your matches. To execute a rugby set kick, you need to set the ball and then aim your kick between the posts. Rugby drills will help you to perfect your technique and help your team to victory.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Make a pocket for the ball to rest in. Punch a divot into the ground with the heel of your shoe.

  2. Step 2

Set the ball so it's upright at a 90-degree angle.

  3. Step 3

Step straight back with 3 large steps, and then take another 2 steps to the side. The direction in which you step depends on which leg you kick with. If you kick with your left leg, step to the right. If you kick with your right leg, step to the left.

  4. Step 4

Run up to the ball. Ideally you want to take 4 strides, with the fourth freeing your dominant foot to strike the ball.

  5. Step 5

Strike the ball with the laces of your shoe. By striking with the laces, you use your entire foot to propel the ball forward rather than just your toes, giving you more power and control.

Tips & Warnings
  • Work with your rugby coach and run drills until you can comfortably gauge how long to make your strides and when to strike the ball.
