Eventually, you'll need to rip out a seam if you do any sewing. Some beginners practice their sewing by ripping out a long straight seam and sewing it back up again. A long straight seam is one of the easiest things to sew and rip out.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Use a seam ripper to tear apart the long straight seam. You can buy this implement at any fabric or craft store. Pull and cut the thread until you've ripped apart the seam.

  2. Step 2

Pull on the thread end until the thread breaks. Turn the work over to the other side and pull on the other thread until it breaks. This method can help eliminate thread bits in the fabric.

  3. Step 3

Cut the thread at right angles every couple of inches. Once you've made your cuts, simply pull the thread out. This is a good option for delicate fabrics.

  4. Step 4

Take a straight edged razor, pull the two pieces of fabric apart and cut down the middle. Take care with the razor, particularly if it's a double-sided blade. Once you've made your cuts, pull out the thread.

  5. Step 5

Remove any stray bits of thread from the fabric. This can be an easy or a difficult task depending on the method you used, the fabric and the thread.

Tips & Warnings
  • Make sure that you're ready to work on the right seam. Pulling out the wrong seam can be frustrating so it's best to check first to be sure you're on the one you want.
