Step 1
Find a long driveway or an empty street to use as a practice area. Building speed isn't a priority, but you want plenty of space to experiment with your balance.
-
Step 2
Set yourself up on the scooter as you normally would. Position your feet near the front of the deck and grip the handlebars securely.
-
Step 3
Give the ground a few good kicks to get going. Build enough speed so the scooter stays balanced and moves forward without wobbling to either side.
-
Step 4
Lean onto the handlebars. The position of the handlebars depends on your height, but for many riders they'll rest right against their lower abs.
-
Step 5
Take one of your hands off of the handlebars and see how it feels. If the scooter stays its course, move onto Step 6. If it wobbles, readjust your body's position against the handlebars and try again.
-
Step 6
Let go of the handlebars with your other hand. Extend both of your hands in front of you and to the side for balance.
-
Step 7
Ride without using your hands as long as you can. Don't wait for the scooter to crash. Grip the handlebars as soon as you start to lose your balance.
