Getting songs onto your iPod takes next to no time at all. Thanks to iTunes, transferring music from your computer to your iPod is as intuitive as it is quick. There are a number of ways you can do this, but dragging-and-dropping the music from your iTunes library is probably the easiest.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Connect your iPod to your computer using a USB cable, a Firewire cable or an iPod docking station. If you have a choice, connect your iPod to a USB 2.0 or Firewire port instead of USB 1.1 or lower.

  2. Step 2

Launch iTunes. You can find its program shortcut on the desktop, in the Quick Launch Toolbar and in the "Programs" folder of the Start Menu.

  3. Step 3

Open your iPod's control panel in iTunes by selecting its icon from the toolbar on the left side of the screen. Open the iPod's "Music" tab and deselect "Sync music." This lets you manage your music by hand.

  4. Step 4

Add the songs you want to transfer to your iPod to your iTunes Library. If all the music's there, head onto the next step.

  5. Step 5

Select the songs you want to transfer. You can select more than one by holding down the "Ctrl" button and highlighting the songs individually.

  6. Step 6

Drag and drop one of the songs onto the iPod's icon under the "Devices" tab. This automatically transfers all of the songs you selected, regardless of their number.

  7. Step 7

Open your iPod's music library and make sure the new songs are there. If some of them haven't popped up yet, give iTunes more time to finish the transfer.

Tips & Warnings
  • Select an entire album at once by clicking the first song, holding down the "Shift" button and then clicking the last song.
