1
Look for a half slip that is shorter than the skirt it will be worn with. Either measure the skirt you will be wearing or bring the skirt when you try on the slips.
-
2
Buy a slip that solves the specific problems of the skirt - a heavier, fuller slip for an itchy skirt, a slim slip for a form-fitting skirt or a lightweight slip for a sheer skirt.

3
Make sure the slip is not visible from underneath the skirt. A half slip should never be seen. Some half-slips are adjustable, coming with a few easy-to-remove hems, each about two inches wide. When you find the right weight and fit, you can adjust the length by removing hems.

4
Check the feel of the slip against your body. It should feel smooth and shouldn't be tight at any point. A half slip that is too tight will cause rippling that will be visible through the skirt. A slip that has a rough texture will not flow well and will catch against the material of the skirt.

Find a half slip that will not shrink in the wash and will maintain its shape long term. Nylon maintains shape, and it's a durable, smooth fabric that you can wash in a machine.
