Things You'll Need:
- Old pair of jeans
- Tracing paper
- 1/2 yard of 1/2-inch thick foam or double-thick quilt batting
- Puffy fabric paint
- Thread
- Scissors
- Pins
- Measuring tape
- White marking pencil
-
Step 1
Lay a pair of jeans on the floor, back side up. Slide feet into the back pockets so that the fit is comfortable. Have a helper draw around the foot from one side to the other (from where the foot is inserted into the pocket) with the white marking pencil.
-
Step 2
Remove feet from the jeans pockets. Use the white marking pencil to add 1/2-inch seam allowance to the outline of the foot. Extend the length of the foot (at the heel) by 1 inch.
-
Step 3
Cut out the drawn shape of the back half of the foot as well as the entire pocket. Flip the cut out piece over onto the other pocket, aligning the pockets perfectly.
-
Step 4
Trace with a white marking pencil around the foot shape onto the other side of the jeans. Cut out the second piece so that there are 2 pieces: one for the right and one for the left foot.
-
Step 5
Take one of the cut out pieces and trace it onto one leg (double thickness) of the jeans. Cut 2 pieces for the soles, 1 right and 1 left foot. Cut out 2 more shapes from the foam or the batting.
-
Step 6
Sandwich the right foot upper (the piece with the pocket) right side up, the foam or batting and the sole, right side down. Pin all around the edge with straight pins.
-
Step 7
Use a serger or a fine zig-zag stitch and dark thread and sew all around the edge, following along the 1/2-inch seam line on the fabric beyond the pocket. Sew right along the edge of the pocket itself.
-
Step 8
Make 3 horizontal squiggly lines of puffy paint on the sole of the slipper across the balls of the feet. Allow the paint to dry overnight.
