Before you can become a professional model, you need to know how to work photo shoots. The best way you can learn is by doing, so grab a photographer friend, a few outfits and your makeup bag to create your own photos.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Pick out a few outfits and your overall look in advance. The day of the shoot you should be prepared with garment bags and makeup and hair supplies tucked into travel bags. Choose outfits that accentuate your positive features and make you feel good about yourself.

  2. Step 2

Style your hair and makeup to fit the overall theme of the shoot. Choose makeup that is light and natural; the agents want to see your face, not the makeup. Style your hair so it works with your makeup and clothes, not against it. You want to look a complete package.

  3. Step 3

Use backgrounds that are plain and uncluttered. Choose a brightly colored wall or an empty park. Use your imagination and personal interests to decide what type of setting shows you off the best. Go for a professional, clean look; make sure you can't see your computer desk or couch in the shot.

  4. Step 4

Add props if they'll work well in the photo. Chairs, park benches, purses, sunglasses or even pets make great props if you use them correctly. Use a variety of props rather than just one, in case it doesn't turn out the way you'd hoped.

  5. Step 5

Keep moving during the photo shoot. Try different poses and facial expressions, ranging from happy to sad. Once the photos are developed, you can see which poses you do best and which you need to work on.

  6. Step 6

Allow time for background, wardrobe and prop changes. However, a great photo shoot doesn't have to take a long time--make the most out of the time you have.

Tips & Warnings
  • Exercise, eat healthy foods and drink plenty of water. You want to look and feel your best all the time but especially for your photo shoot.
  • Avoid showing too much skin during your photo shoot. You may think showing your body is a good thing, but it can end up looking tawdry and desperate. Show confidence without showing everything and you may see better results.
  • Avoid experimenting with new makeup or beauty products right before the photo shoot. You never know what can cause you to break out or might irritate your skin, so try any new products well in advance.
