Things You'll Need:
- Two 3.5-by-2-inch pieces of fabric
- Four 6.5-by-2-inch pieces of fabric
- Two 9.5-by-2-inch pieces of fabric
- Five 3.5-inch square pieces of fabric
- Sewing machine
- Scissors
-
Step 1
Choose a light color to make the focus of your pineapple quilt. This color will represent the diagonal pineapples. You will need five, 3.5-inch squares per pineapple block.
-
Step 2
Flip over these square pieces, and on the back of each draw a diagonal line that divides the square in half into 2 right triangles.
-
Step 3
Cut rectangle pieces from your dark and medium colors. Each rectangle will be 2-inches wide. Per pineapple block, you'll need 2 rectangles that are 3.5-inches long, 4 rectangles that are 6.5-inches long and 2 more rectangles that are each 9.5-inches long.
-
Step 1
Arrange the center of your pineapple block. Put one square in the middle, and surround it with 6.5-inch-long rectangles on the top and bottom. Put 3.5-inch rectangles on the right and left. Sew these sides together.
-
Step 2
Change out the corners. Turn your piece on its edge so that the square is positioned like a diamond. Take 2 of your light-colored squares. Position them so the wrong side is showing, and line up the corner of these small squares with the corner of the large square. Sew the small squares to the large one by sewing on both sides of the diagonal line. Separate the pieces by cutting down the middle.
-
Step 3
Add the next set of rectangles. Put 9.5-inch-long rectangles on the top and bottom. Put 6.5-inch rectangles on the right and left. Sew these sides together.
-
Step 4
Sew out the corners again by repeating Step 2. Take 2 light-colored squares, line them up, sew them to the main block. Cut them out, and your block is complete.
-
Step 5
Repeat these steps until you have enough blocks to make the size quilt you want. Then sew the blocks together.
