Instructions

    • 1

Decide how large you want to make your confetti quilt. This will determine how much scrap fabric will you need to accumulate.

    • 2

Gather up your fabric. Save bits of fabric from other quilting projects, sewing projects, old clothing. Anything and everything can go into a confetti quilt. You can also use another plain fabric to help sew all the scraps together. To ensure that you have enough scrap for any given quilt make sure that any piece of fabric is 2- to 3-inches wide and tall.

    • 3

Plan out your quilt. To ensure that the quilt will end up being even and square plan ahead on how the quilt is going to look. To make this less daunting, break the quilt down into smaller squares.

    • 4

Design the quilting squares. For a confetti quilt there are no set rules on how to sew together the blocks of fabric. You can use squares, triangles or any other shape. The squares don't have to be balanced or even. You can create a quilt as uniform or crazy as you want.

    • 5

Sew together the squares. Follow your pattern and cut out the fabric for each square that you designed. Remember to pin, sew and iron each seam before moving on to the next.

    • 6

Stitch together all the blocks to make the finished quilt top. Iron all the seams one last time.

    • 7

Attach the quilted top to the batting and backing and stitch them into place. Bind the edges and your quilt is finished.
