A catwalk, also known as a wheelie, is a basic bicycle trick that will impress your friends. It involves lifting the front wheel of your bicycle and pedaling forward with the wheel suspended in the air. Practicing a catwalk will greatly improve your balance and stamina on a bicycle.

Difficulty: Challenging
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Center your weight on the bicycle above the handlebars and stand up to perform a catwalk.

  2. Step 2

Push hard on the handlebars, then pull the bicycle's front upwards.

  3. Step 3

    Lean back and pedal quickly.

  4. Step 4

Pull the handlebars of the bicycle up even higher while continuing to stand on the bike. This will be the highest point of the front wheel during the trick.

  5. Step 5

Take your seat on the bike and pedal forward as far as possible. Keep your catwalk going as long as you can.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you're having a hard time trying to lift the bicycle up, try using a lighter bike for the catwalk bicycle trick.
  • If you feel yourself beginning to fall backwards on the bicycle, lightly hit your rear break to regain balance.
  • Shifting your weight from side to side a little during the trick will help you prolong your catwalk.
  • Be careful to pull both handlebars on the bicycle up evenly when performing the catwalk trick, or the wheel will turn and mess up your balance.
  • Its important to wear proper safety gear when performing the catwalk bicycle trick. Always wear a helmet, knee and shoulder pads.

on 1/14/2009 Excellent tutorial and guide! possibly good to note that this isnt so easy on some bikes as they were not designed for it and the weight is restrictive. a BMX or standerd mountain style road bike should work fine though.
