Tree frogs make wonderful pets. They look adorable and don't require much maintenance. However, your tree frog may one day come down with an illness. Since you want to care for your pet properly, you should learn how to diagnose the frog's illness.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Check the tree frog's appearance. If the frog appears thin, with bones protruding, it may have a nutritional deficiency. If this is the case, you can treat your frog by giving it enough food dusted with a powdered supplement. Also, if your tree frog has cloudy eyes, it may have an eye infection.

  2. Step 2

Look for any wounds. Some tree frogs suffer wound-related illnesses. If left untreated, it can progress to a potentially deadly infection. Locate the site of the wound and notify a vet to determine treatment options.

  3. Step 3

Examine the frog's coloring. Odd coloring in a tree frog can also help you diagnose a tree frog's illness. A reddish color on its legs and thighs may be caused by Red Leg, a potentially deadly illness. Another cause of odd coloring on a tree frog is a fungal infection.

  4. Step 4

Consider the tree frog's disposition. A tired or listless tree frog typically indicates a problem. If the tree frog seems sleepy and yawns constantly, it may have Spring's Disease.

Tips & Warnings
  • When you are unable to diagnose a tree frog's illness, consult a vet. The vet can advise you on possible causes of your frog's appearance or habits.
