How to Buy Used Luggage

Instead of investing large amounts of money in brand-new luggage, many frequent travelers buy used luggage to reduce their expenses. In some cases, it is actually more advantageous to buy used luggage than it is to buy it new, because you can get more pieces for lower prices, and you can also find designer labels at reduced prices.

Instructions

    • 1

Look in the items ads of your local newspaper classified section to find deals on buying used luggage. It would be better to buy name-brand used luggage than off-brand since this is actually a better investment. You may even be able to resell the used luggage after you're done using it if you buy used name-brands.

    • 2

Check the seams and sides of the luggage to ensure that there is not substantial wear and tear on the luggage. Although you will be buying it used, it loses its resale value if there are numerous markings within the luggage material.

    • 3

Go to garage sales and yard sales to find used luggage. Check the luggage out thoroughly, since it is a final sale, to be sure that the luggage is in fair to good condition.

    • 4

Buy used luggage at online stores. Check their return policy and purchasing procedures before buying to be sure that you're investing wisely (see Resources below).

    • 5

Find out the manufacturer's date on the luggage of the date that the luggage was made, if possible. This will help you in determining the value of the used luggage and if it is worth the asking price.

    • 6

Locate power sellers on eBay who are resellers of used luggage. Even if they advertise new luggage, email them and ask if you can buy used luggage if they have any. Usually when customers return items to them, this counts as used luggage and the reseller may be willing to selling it to you at a discounted rate.

    • 7

Compare the used luggage with the price of the same luggage if it was purchased new. Check with any online websites or department stores where the luggage can be found. This will help to determine worth and value of the luggage.
