How to Hack Minesweeper

So you've played Minesweeper thousands of times, but try as you might you just can't beat the advanced level. Well here are two ways to beat it and the second way will let you beat it in a second flat.

Instructions

  1. Hack Number One

    • 1

Right click on your desktop and select "Properties."

    • 2

Click the "Background" tab, select "None" and change the color to black.

    • 3

      Open Minesweeper.

    • 4

      Type "xyzzy."

    • 5

Hold shift as you roll the mouse over the game board.

    • 6

Look at the top-left corner of the screen. Every time a tiny white dot appears while the cursor is over a cell, that means there's no mine underneath, and it's safe to click it. Every time the white dot goes away, flag the cell, because it has a mine.

    Hack Number Two

    • 7

Open you start menu and select "Run."

    • 8

      Type "regedit" and hit "Enter."

    • 9

Click on the plus sign next to the folder, "HKEY_CURRENT_USER."

    • 10

Locate the "Software" folder and click on the plus sign next to it.

    • 11

      Select the folder called "winmine."

    • 12

Right click on "Time1" and select "modify." In the "Value Data" box, type "1."

    • 13

Close the Registry window, open Minesweeper and amaze your friends with your new best time.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you have difficulty seeing the white dot, right click on your desktop, select properties, then settings, and change your display to a lower resolution (640 by 480).

  • This hack involves editing your computer's registry, which can render your computer inoperable if you aren't careful. Only use this hack if you're comfortable with that risk. Back up your registry before you make any changes, just in case you want to put things back the way they were.
