Many people love having a different song or tone for everyone in their contact list or personal phone book. Users often prefer making their own ringtones as opposed to buying them online. Creating and uploading a ringtone is a fun project for any cell phone user.

From Quick Guide: Cell Phone Ringtones
Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Cell phone data cable
  • Ringtone software
  • Music or tones
  1. Step 1

Determine the type of cell phone that will receive the ringtone. Each separate cell phone manufacturer has specific instructions and cables for their brand or model.

  2. Step 2

Buy a corresponding data cable for the cell phone. These data cables are available from the manufacturer or from third party retailers often found on the Internet.

  3. Step 3

Locate the software application best suited for the creation and uploading of ringtones. There are hundreds of software programs available to the user, such as Xingtone Ringtone Maker and DJ ToneXpress.

  4. Step 4

Open the software program chosen and use the interface to select the tone or music selection desired. Choose a portion of the song or tone that best suits the ringtone and save this file to a folder on the computer.

  5. Step 5

Connect the data cable to the USB port on the computer and plug the other end into the cell phone's data port. The cell phone's instruction manual will direct the user to this port.

  6. Step 6

Upload the newly created ringtone from the computer to the cell phone. The ringtone selection will be saved to the cell phone's ringtone folder automatically.

  7. Step 7

Find the ringtone selection in the cell phone's ringtone or sound folder and choose the created and uploaded new ringtone for the default phone ring.

Tips & Warnings
  • Buy the best data cable for the cell phone and consider the original manufacturer equipment first.
  • Be aware of the amount of memory the cell phone allocates to ringtones. Many cell phones have a small area for sound files, so the ringtones uploaded must be small in size.
  • Always use appropriate software for the specific cell phone. Failure to do this could result in a damaged cell phone.
