Step 1
Run into the ocean when you see the wave you want. Drop the board on the wet sand and jump onto it. Stay as stable as you can while you slide into the ocean toward the wave.
-
Step 2
Approach the wave and then bank off of it at an angle. A backside (called a liner) is when you come to the wave in one direction and then instead of turning back when you bank, you want to keep moving in the same direction. This is easier the more parallel to the shoreline you angle yourself. You'll also have more speed.
-
Step 3
Position your weight on the back foot to lift the board's nose. This helps you glide onto the water instead of into it.
-
Step 4
Turn the board into your 360 (a full rotation) by shifting your weight to the rear rail or edge of the board, closest to the shore (shore-side rail) while you are on top of the water. The harder you can press your weight down onto the back foot during the turn, the better control you'll achieve. However, if you want more speed, center yourself over the board and use the side rail to turn.
