How to Say Thanks in Different Languages

If you travel to a lot of different countries or have friends of many cultures, you might like to learn polite expressions in their native languages. Saying thank you is a simple way to start.

Instructions
  1. Step 1

    Learn the common languages like German, French or Spanish. You can speak these languages in a variety of countries in America, South America, Central America, North America and Europe.

  2. Step 2

    Thank someone in German by saying "Danke." Add the word "vielen" to "danke" and drop the "e" if you want to say many thanks. It becomes "vielen dank."

  3. Step 3

    Say "Merci" when you are speaking to someone in French. You can add the word "bien" when you are more thankful. Say "Merci tres bien" if you are very grateful to someone. Add the words "Monsieur" or "Madam" if you want to be very polite.

  4. Step 4

    Speak the word "gracias" when you speak to someone in Spanish. Use the words "Muchas gracias" when you are very thankful.

  5. Step 5

    Thank you translates to "grazie" when you speak Italian. You can be more formal and say "La ringrazio" which means thank you.

  6. Step 6

    Try the word "Agradecimentos" when you speak to someone in Portuguese. Say thank you with the word "Obrigado."

  7. Step 7

    Practice the words with someone who knows the language to make sure you are saying them correctly.
