How to Keep Geese Off a Boat Dock

If you have ever been walking on a boat dock and slipped in some geese waste, then you're not alone. Many people suffer from walking through waste, feathers and even those winged friends themselves.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Determine how the geese get on the dock. Some may fly overhead and just use the boat dock as a landing zone. Others may swim up to the dock and park their tail feathers there for a while.

  2. Step 2

Extend the boat dock's vertical posts to reach a minimum of 8 feet. Stretch the extended posts from one end of the boat dock to the other.

  3. Step 3

Attach chain link fencing to the vertical posts. Run the chain link fencing along the entire perimeter of the boat dock. Leave a space for an opening to get in and out of the boats.

  4. Step 4

Install a chain link gate in the area that was left open. This will allow easy access to the boats or the dock depending on if you're coming or going. Measure the exact size of the gate opening because you do not want geese squeezing through a gap in dock coverage.

  5. Step 5

Stretch industrial strength netting over the top of the boat dock. This will ward off any geese trying to access the boat dock from the air. The netting will also allow plenty of sunlight onto the dock to help it dry to avoid any slips and accidents.
