Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Choose a theme. Children's parties often revolve around Disney characters, princesses or super heroes. Adult parties often forgo a specific theme in favor of a simple dinner party. Consider your favorite places, music and hobbies when choosing a theme.

  2. Step 2

Make your own invitations, buy pre-made ones or go green and send everything through email. Let guests know the date, time and location about 2 weeks before the event. Ask for RSVPs so you know how many guests to plan for.

  3. Step 3

Decorate your birthday venue according to your theme. If your party is at a public place, check with the owners before you decorate to find out what's acceptable. Plan any music or movies ahead of time and make sure to leave plenty of time in the schedule for these activities.

  4. Step 4

Plan the food in advance and have alternative options for guests with allergies or diets. Finger foods are best unless your party is at a restaurant or you have a caterer to handle the preparation.

  5. Step 5

Decide to play games, have a fashion show, watch favorite movies or go to a sporting event. Have some form of entertainment to keep guests happy and fulfilled. Whether the goal is a simple meet and greet or an outdoor playtime, let guest know what to expect and how to dress for the occasion.

  6. Step 6

Give away party favors, especially at a child's event. Small bags containing candy, toys or photos are always popular at parties.

  7. Step 7

Clean up right away, especially if the party is in a public place. Enlist the help of family members or close friends to make cleaning quick and easy.
