To get a date for a school function, you need to make the first move. Today, both girls and boys can ask each other out on dates. If you are going to a dance or other school function, you need to give yourself a few days before the function to find someone. Don't wait too long, or the person you wish to invite may be already going with someone else.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging

Step1
Pick someone to ask on a date. You should like this person or want to get to know them better. Once you know who you wish to invite on the date, you can work on your method.
Step2
Start a conversation with the person. People like to talk about themselves, so ask about what they like, do or feel about something. For example, if you see this person in one of your classes, ask him what he is doing for the project or if he thought the test was difficult. If he doesn't know you, introduce yourself.
Step3
Meet her eyes when talking to her. Always look at her with a positive look on your face, no matter what you are talking about. Look at her eyes and smile. This gives the other person reason to trust you and to like you, even if she doesn't know you.
Step4
Find a common ground to talk about if you have trouble starting a conversation. If you both like sports, ask about the latest game's scores. If you know the other person enjoys going to a specific club, tell him you've been thinking about going there and want to know what it's like.
Step5
Ask her about the school function. Ask her if she is going to it. If she says "yes," ask who she is going with. If she says "not yet," then ask if she would like to go with you.
Step6
Be casual and comfortable. Even if he says no, don't be offended or sad. Look for the next person to ask. Keep looking for people to ask, and don't worry about not finding anyone. Someone will say yes.

Tips & Warnings

  • Be polite and be yourself; that's what people really want to see in others.
  • Confidence is an important part of asking anyone out. Don't be arrogant, but confident.
