1
Start with alternative punk indie bands. Find music from Motion City Soundtrack, Fall Out Boy, Panic at the Disco and Boys Like Girls.
-
2
Go back to emo roots and add some Dashboard Confessional to your playlist. Browse small music shops for new and used emo and indie albums to add to your collection.
-
3
Ask your scenester friends what they're listening to and buy it. Search their iPods for anything from Cyndi Lauper and Blondie to Flyleaf and Paramore.
-
4
Find new music on MySpace. Add songs to your profile and see what your friends are listening to. Search MySpace Music for new songs and bands and add your favorites to your friends list.
-
5
Check out local bands. Go to local shows and meet bands before they get famous. Mosh, sing out loud with every lyric and take photos to show friends later. Go to large tours like the Vans Warped Tour and Lollapalooza and stay to see every band.

Listen to some hardcore rock and rap just to know you're still tough and open to new things. Scene kids don't stick to one type of music but instead listen to many genres, influenced by what their friends like and what bands play locally.
